Femi Falana (SAN) a human rights lawyer and father to popular Nigerian artist and actor Folarin Falana better known as Falz, has made some shocking revelations about his son and why he embarrasses the government.
Falana, who made the disclosure on Sunday while speaking at the 2nd anniversary of the Odumakin Oluyinka Lecture in Lagos, explained that Falz’s action was a result of what he was made to experience while growing up.
He said that his frequent arrest as a legal practitioner always bothered his son, who thought he was a criminal.
“One of these guys one day said, ‘Femi talk to your son; he should stop embarrassing the government. I said which government?
Do you mean that boy who is an adult? Can I give you his number so you can talk to him?. But he was careful because when he was growing up. I was being arrested from time to time. So, the only language he understood was arrest, detention, and the rest of them.
”When Falz was six, he asked his mother, “Our teacher taught us that only criminals were arrested. Is my dad a criminal? Why is he always being arrested? And the mother had to tell him that in Nigeria, under the military, only two sets of people were arrested. Political suspects and criminal suspects. Political suspects are those who expose the criminality of the government. That is what you see going on.”
This comes days after Falz and Olanrewaju Ogunmefun, professionally known as Vector, expressed their views about the process and outcome of the 2023 elections in their latest song, ‘Yakubu‘, titled after the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
